The 7.9-inch Android device -- which has the same-size surface as the iPad mini -- uses an Nvidia quad-core Tegra K1 processor and will be manufactured by Foxconn, cofounder and CEO Lei Jun announced. The Mi Pad includes 2 GB of RAM, WiFi connectivity, and either 16 GB or 64 GB of on-board storage, though it can support up to an additional 128 GB of storage through microSD connectivity.

Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen this week said that the wildly popular mobile game will return in August and also that he is working on a brand-new offering. After dropping a tantalizing hint back in March, Nguyen on Wednesday said the new Flappy Bird will deliver multiplayer capabilities and be "less addictive." On Thursday, however, he said he was not its creator. "'Flappy Bird: New Season' is not mine," he tweeted. Meanwhile, "I am making a new game," he wrote later that day, "so people can forget about Flappy Bird for a while."

The Enlightenment desktop environment is not for everyone. Experienced Linux fans may delight in some new light bulbs switching on, but Linux newcomers may find themselves groping in the darkness. For the Linux-initiated, Enlightenment offers some powerful new flexibility in how to set up and use the operating system. Note -- Linux experience will not make your journey to one of the least known graphical user interfaces in the Linux OS a fully pleasant trip, but once you get there, you will probably like your surroundings.

At a meeting with the press earlier this year, F-Secure Chief Research Officer Mikko Hypponen -- yes, the man who sparked the angry exodus of a small group of malware vendors from the RSA security conference after learning that RSA had worked with the NSA to make a pseudo-random number generator known to be insecure the default choice in its security software -- mentioned the company would soon unveil Freedome, a cloud-based service that would be pretty much the bees' knees for protecting mobile devices.

A disgraced politician, a pedophile, and a doctor who received negative ratings from patients reportedly are among the hordes of people asking Google to take down links to information published about them. The requests followed Tuesday's preliminary ruling by the European Court of Justice indicating Google may have to remove links to people's names on request, if appropriate. The issue is a "collision between the right to be forgotten and the right to know," Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt said Wednesday.

Wearable technology and other devices, objects and systems connected to the Internet will be fully pervasive in our society by 2025, according to a new report. The Internet of Things, or IoT, references the many objects in our everyday lives that are connected to the Internet and share data. While the trend already is taking effect through products like wearable fitness technology and smartphone-controlled light bulbs, it will have a much more widespread impact on our lives in a decade's time, according to the Pew Research Center.

This week's European high court decision against Google was "astonishing," according to Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales, who called it "one of the most wide-sweeping Internet censorship rulings I've ever seen." Wales, like anyone who read the ruling, noticed that the parameters for judging whether content be removed were exceptionally ambiguous. This puts Google in dilly of a pickle, Wales said, forcing the company to determine things like relevance -- and face legal repercussions if it is wrong.
