A small team in France has created what it calls the world's first full HD 360-degree camera -- the 360cam by Giroptic. The 360cam is currently one of the hottest Kickstarter projects, blasting past its modest $150,000 goal to rack up nearly $800,000 in crowd-based funding with 29 days to go. So what is the 360cam? Basically, it's a small, portable pear-shaped device that has three 185-degree fisheye lenses mounted on the top. These lenses are synchronized to capture and stitch images in real time inside the camera.

Android TV has appeared in tech industry rumors for years, but recent reports suggest the long-awaited technology actually may be making its way into the real world at last. Google apparently plans to announce the launch of Android TV at its Google I/O developer conference in San Francisco later this month, according to "multiple sources familiar with Google's plans." What's announced there will resemble Google TV, in that it's a platform TV and set-top box manufacturers will be able to use to offer new streaming services.

Apple managed to pull off a mean feat on Monday at its WorldWide Developers Conference. Without announcing a single hardware device, it teased consumers with dozens of updated features in iOS 8 and the next version of Mac OS X -- dubbed "Yosemite" -- then doubled-down with app developers by offering tons of new APIs, along with elements of deep integration between apps and devices. The company capped it all off with the announcement of Swift, a brand new Xcode programming language for developers. Everybody got a taste of something tantalizing.

Samsung this week officially launched its long-anticipated Tizen phone, at the Tizen Developer Conference being held in San Francisco through Wednesday. One description of Tizen is that it's an open source Linux-based operating system from Samsung -- but that might be open to debate. The Samsung Z Tizen phone initially will debut in Russia in the third quarter. In the meantime, Samsung will boost its efforts to attract developers to create apps for the operating system.

If you're a spammer, big news like the recent breach of eBay's computers is like striking oil in your back yard. Perpetrators of unwanted email live for headline-grabbing events that they can use to separate gullible Web wanderers from their money, so the eBay breach is a perfect vehicle for the scammers. "We see this around security events like the eBay breach and natural disasters," said Cloudmark Threat Researcher Andrew Conway. "In some cases, they'll take you to a malicious site that will try to convince you to install a Trojan."
