It's bothersome to system shepherds because it can open up an organization to data leakages. It's also growing. They say art imitates life, but it's surprising how often the same can be said of the Linux blogs. Case in point: Just as the world at large is filled today with fiery strife -- Gaza, Ukraine, Syria, Ferguson -- so, too, is the Linux blogosphere. Of course, it's not political, social or racial struggles tearing the FOSS community apart. Rather, the dividing issue here is none other than Systemd. Systemd is a topic that's been discussed in heated terms many times before, of course -- including a lively debate back in May.

Apple on Tuesday issued a statement blaming the posting online of more than 100 celebrities' photos in various stages of dishabille on a highly targeted hack attack to gain access to their usernames, passwords and answers to security questions. None of the cases investigated resulted from any breach in the company's systems, including iCloud or Find my iPhone, Apple maintained. However, Apple this weekend reportedly fixed a flaw in its Find My iPhone feature that was believed to have allowed hackers to breach those celebrities' accounts.

People have been reluctant to discuss whistle-blower Edward Snowden's revelations about the U.S. National Security Agency's surveillance activities in social media, the Pew Center Internet Project reported last week. Only 42 percent of the 1,800 adults interviewed by the center were willing to post their views on the topic on their Facebook and Twitter accounts, although 82 percent were willing to discuss it face to face with others. Respondents were more willing to discuss the issue, either online or in person, with others of the same opinion.
