Security consultant Benjamin Mussler last week warned that the Kindle e-book library had a cross-site scripting vulnerability. It appears Amazon previously had fixed the XSS flaw but two months ago reintroduced it in a new version of the "Manage Your Kindle" Web application, according to Mussler. Mussler first reported the XSS vulnerability to Amazon last November, and it was fixed. However, Amazon's IT staff continued to use his proof of concept on internal preproduction systems for months afterward, he claimed.

Bungie's second special Destiny event, dubbed "Vault of Glass," went live early Tuesday. Bungie calls it "the most elaborate mission" it has ever created. Only gamers who have reached Level 26 will qualify. Attempts to complete the Raid are being streamed live on Twitch. After months of hype and anticipation, Destiny, the latest video game from Halo developer Bungie, finally arrived last week. Although sales have been extremely strong, Bungie announced a series of in-game events in an effort to spur even more interest.

A new, flexible robotic suit funded by the U.S. military's DARPA could enable soldiers to walk longer distances with less fatigue and also improve mobility for disabled civilians. Called the "Soft Exosuit," the biologically inspired device is made of flexible textiles woven together into a piece of smart clothing that is pulled on like a pair of pants and intended to be worn under a soldier's regular gear. The suit mimics the action of the wearer's leg muscles and tendons when walking and provides small, carefully timed assistance.

Stanford and Duke Universities reportedly will use Apple's HealthKit in medical trials. Doctors at Stanford are working with Apple to let physicians track blood sugar levels for children with diabetes, while Duke is developing a pilot program to track blood pressure, weight and other measurements for patients with cancer or heart disease. The programs will roll out in a few weeks. "Mobile devices can increase healthcare effectiveness and lower healthcare costs," said Ezra Gottheil, a principal analyst at Technology Business Research.
